Beautiful – The Carole King Musical, the Olivier award-winning West End and Broadway show is returning to Cardiff and Mr and Mrs 50 Plus are well excited! (scroll to the bottom for our thoughts on the performance).
We love a good sing-song and this musical is packed full of some of the best songs ever written. Last time we went to The Wales Millennium Centre, it was to see Club Tropicana and we sang our little hearts out all the way home. And you can bet that Beautiful is going to be another belter of a musical.
Long before she was a chart-topping music legend, Carole King was just an ordinary girl with an extraordinary talent! And this is the story we see unfold before us …
The Carole King Musical
Beautiful tells the inspiring true story of Carole King’s remarkable rise to stardom. It follows her life as part of a hit song-writing team with her husband Gerry Goffin. The story moves to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann. And as we all know she ends up becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history!
Even if you think you’re not sure you know any of her songs, the chances are you’ll know loads of them. You could say that Carole King wrote the soundtrack to a whole generation. Amongst her countless classics, are You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman, Take Good Care Of My Baby and You’ve Got A Friend. And who can forget the catchy It Might As Well Rain Until September and The Locomotion!
See what I mean …….. sounds like it’s going to be a great night, doesn’t it! (review is below)
‘Beautiful’ Review
What a fantastic night we had! A foot-tapping, shoulder-swaying heartwarmer of a story, Beautiful exceeded all our expectations. The artists rolled out hit after hit after hit – a veritable avalanche of tremendous chart-toppers. We heard The Cherelles, The Drifters and oh so many more. And everythinbg without exception has stood the test of time.
Little Eva
Carole King’s babysitter ‘Little Eva’ singing The Locomotion was a delight. Humorous too, as her huge success meant that Carole and her song-writer husband lost their babysitter and couldn’t go out!
Every single actor on that stage in the spectacular Millennium Centre was spot-on and the music was brilliant. The story told was of a young talented songwriter who remained down-to-earth and one-of-us even after achieving her fame. An extraordinary young woman with ambition, Carole wanted to be an ordinary mum and wife as well. The modern equivalent is the work-life balance which so many mums find difficult to achieve. Can we really have it all?
However the question is, does Carole’s husband want the ‘sex, drugs and rock’n’roll’ that go with the territory or a life in suburbia?
Get your tickets now and see for yourself. I promise you won’t be disappointed. We loved it!
