The use of flower essences to reduce stress is not a new thing. It’s simply tapping in to ancient traditions to cope with today’s pressures.
Below, Amy Murphy-Watts tells us why …
Recent reports are telling us that as we approach our 50’s we are more likely to experience higher levels of anxiety and stress, which can last through our 50’s into our 60’s. Statisticians analysed personal wellbeing data from over 300,000 adults in the UK, and their findings were that our sense of happiness and life satisfaction can drop in our late 40’s then rising again in our 60’s. Perhaps this is due to financial pressures, demands of children as many of us our having children later. Bereavement, divorce, caring for elderly relatives all play a part in our emotional health and wellbeing.
Coping Strategies for Stress
Putting coping strategies into place is very important. Taking ten minutes out a day to reconnect with yourself, meditation, walking in nature, Mindfulness are all ways in which our anxiety levels can be kept in check.
In fact being in touch with nature and all that it brings to us can help bring about a sense of balance that we all strive for. Ancient cultures believed that when we are in perfect harmony with nature, our inner spirit and mind work together in balance.
However in today’s society it is very difficult to find that perfect balance. Home life, work life etc pulls us in all directions so we often feel totally out of kilter. We don’t know which way to turn, and lose the ability to relax and feel that inner sense of calm.
Flower Essences
For hundreds of years flowers have been used to heal and soothe us. The ancient Egyptians as well as using flowers in aromatherapy would put flowers in their baths to help calm them. Other cultures would keep flowers floating in bowls of water. They would then periodically sip the water, gaining the benefits of the vibrations of the flowers. This way of using flowers is now know to us as Flower Essences.
Flower essences help to bring us to balance. They work on our inner vibrations to enable us to release negative emotions and behavioural patterns. They have the ability to enhance our positive personality traits and emotions, enabling us to move away from the more self-destructive negative emotions.
As well as flower essences we make, crystal and environmental essences which all help to bring us back to our positive; we will always be a mixture of positive and negative, but it is about gaining a balance between the two and loving and accepting ourselves for who we are.
Flower Essences for Anxiety
Essences are a form a vibrational healing. Each essence contains the imprint of energy from a particular flower, tree, crystal, environment, gem or mineral. Drawing on these calming vibrations gives us the opportunity to come back to balance. They can help support us when we are trying to release old thought patterns that are no longer useful to us or our development as we journey through life.
When faced with that feeling of overwhelming anxiety it may be Peace essence is the one for you, to help with that feeling of being under pressure and overwhelm. Tranquillity is perfect for stress and anxiety and Clarity for the busy brain constantly whirring.
In a society with the constant pressure of social media it is very difficult to switch off and focus on yourself and be in the moment. Unless, of course, you actually consciously decide to go ‘off grid’ for a while. Having essences in your well-being tool box means that you rebalance when the anxiety and stress gets too much. Taking time out to check in with your self is so important, for acknowledging your mind set helps to bring you back in control; giving you a chance to do something about it, giving you a sense of empowerment and calm.
