A House Declutter

We’re thinking of selling our house!

That sounds quite positive, exciting, even romantic in some eyes. To me, as soon as the For Sale board went up alarm bells started ringing very loudly in my head.

The actual moving bit is the easy part. What is invariably forgotten is how our inner hoarder has got the better of us over the last decade. Our loft was piled high with memorabilia dating back two decades; kids school books, school reports, instruction manuals for defunct gadgets, course literature, redundant DIY ‘offcuts’, to mention but a few. Mrs. C even has the kids’ first shoes up there!

Imagine the stress and the pain of having to deal with all that on moving out day. It doesn’t bear thinking about, does it! How long would it take for the house to be decluttered ?

A Proactive Declutter

We decided to be proactive; to take the sting out of it all by having a sort-out in advance. Have you seen how much a 10 Yard Skip hire costs nowadays? Brings tears to my eyes, and let’s face it, a dirty great metal box full of rubbish on your drive doesn’t present your house in its best light either. So we decided to do a declutter with Clearabee and ordered one of their ‘Beebags’.

A big canvas bag arrived in the post the next day, and when opened up it was surprisingly large. Certainly large enough for what we had to dispose of. We could also chose where to place it prior to filling it with our various junk. Tucked neatly behind our car on the drive, we started to fill it with bits and pieces from the drive, the garden, the shed(s) and of course that Aladin’s Cave of an attic.

It was all surprisingly easy as we could do everything in our own time and then, the same as with small skips , it was just a case of contacting Clearabee when we were done in order for them to collect it.

Collection Day

Collection day came around and the van arrived exactly as promised and the bag and its contents were taken away, leaving no mess, no fuss and a nicely decluttered house and garden.

Doing a declutter with Clearabee is easier and less obtrusive than the conventional metal skip and it’s a lot more flexible too, allowing you to place it in the best place without making your front drive an eyesore for all to see. It’s a weight off our minds and it was a great idea at just the right time.
