Mr and Mrs 50 Plus decided they needed a treat. After nearly a year working on their doer-upper house it was time to attend to those calluses and pamper their weary bodies. The Celtic Manor Resort has always been a favourite, with its impressive hotel, luxurious rooms and superb spa and health club. So, without hesitation we packed a bag and trundled down the M4 to spend a night spoiling ourselves for the first time in goodness knows how long…
Signature Collection
On arrival we approached reception and were told that as we had booked one of their ‘Signature Collection’ rooms we would be checking in on their Signature reception on the 6th floor. The spacious Signature Collection rooms are designed for adults only and have been recently refurbished to the highest standard with a calming, light and modern feel.
It had a huge 6ft bed and views out over one of the resort’s golf courses in front of the impressive facade. A lovely surprise was the complimentary bottle of Prosecco awaiting us in the room. It’s a really nice touch and one that we definitely appreciated.
The Pampering
Our afternoon’s plan was a visit to the Forum Spa and Treatment rooms. There was a time when I, Mr C, wouldn’t have dreamt of having spa treatments, but a few years ago I began to appreciate the benefits and pleasure that they can provide. We both had a ‘Superfood Pro-Radiance’ facial treatment which left us feeling relaxed, cleansed and ten years younger (hmmm? – 5, maybe??). It was a great way of winding down and forgetting the hubbub of the outside world.
Later, we ventured over to the Signature Lounge for a drink before our meal. Our waiter, Jorge, was brilliant. Knowledgeable, friendly and humorous, he chatted and went through both the drinks and food menu in detail. Enjoying the appetisers and ordering from the menu of the ‘Steak on Six’ restaurant was seamless and efficient. As we were finishing our pre-dinner cocktails we were taken through to our seats. From here the restaurant staff took over their role and ensured that everything was as it should be.
Tomahawk?
After our delicious scallops starters we chose one of the ‘Tomahawk’ steaks to share for our main. The steak is brought out and carved onto a terracotta heated plate at the table. It was a big, tasty and delicious steak which was accompanied by their own ‘tatws pim minud’ potato side and a choice of sauces. I particularly loved the Cabernet and shallot reduction.
The food was great and the setting and ambience was perfect. The staff were all absolutely superb throughout, making the whole experience truly memorable. We were well-fed, well-watered and totally chilled by the time we headed back to the room at the end of the evening.
The Celtic Manor Resort – Luxurious and Huge
Finally, a lovely night’s sleep in the luxurious and huge bed really made the night.
The Celtic Manor Resort really does do it right. It offers luxury, service, surroundings and facilities to take on the very best. We had such a lovely time there. Checking out after only one night was our only disappointment. We could have killed for an extra night it was that good!
After a hearty full breakfast we hit the road and looked back at the imposing outline of the Celtic Manor. Then, simultaneously, we both said – ‘That was good!’ We look forward to our next visit and can’t wait to do it again sometime.
