In Quintastic People , we look at people ‘of a certain age’ who are pretty fantastic. Today we meet Saskia Marjoram (yes her real name) who has worked with flowers for her whole life. ..
As a child growing up in the hills and valleys of Stroud in the 60’s and 70’s she was always asking the names of flowers and pressing them to give as birthday cards, bringing home bunches of flowers to put in jam jars and making magic potions from squished flower heads in water.
Florist To The Prince of Wales
From there she went from professional gardener to florist and grower of cut flowers. Her first gardening job was for HRH Prince Michael of Kent who lived up the road – only really because her mother said she had to get a job or leave home, and that was the first one she saw on the job centre notice board that she thought she could do – and then her first floristry job was for HRH the Prince of Wales where she was assistant florist for more than ten years -again a chance encounter landed her this amazing job based at Highgrove.
Like lots of things in life that were meant to be, Saskia started creating flower essences by necessity to help her own family. Her children were having trouble at school and her relationship was falling apart. A homeopath friend suggested trying the Australian Bush Flower Essences. The results were close to miraculous. Just a few drops under the tongue twice a day and patterns and behaviours that she thought she was stuck with forever started to dissolve.
Saskia Marjoram & Flower Essences
However Saskia and her family needed more essences than she could afford. As a professional gardener and florist she knew most of the plants around her on a physical level so moving over to discovering more about their personalities and what they helped with was a natural progression. And so, in 2003, she started making her own flower essences. From that point on Saskia’s fascination of how humans and plants interact took over as she worked with the essences finding out what they were for and how they could help people
She now lives in Wincanton (East Somerset) where her business is thriving and people come to her for flower essence consultations from far and wide.
So What Are Flower Essences Exactly ?
Flower Essences, (think Bach Flower Remedies/Rescue Remedy) contain the vibration of the plant that they are made from and contain no material matter. They don’t have any smell. Their unique vibration is held as a memory in water and fixed there with alcohol. When this liquid is absorbed into your system this vibration is transferred to all of the liquid in your body. This enables you to learn the lessons that that plant has to teach you.
Essences are usually used to help you unlearn patterns that are no longer useful or required. Essences help you to shift negative thoughts and behaviours and they give massive support in difficult times.
They are completely safe for all the family to use from birth onwards. You can even use them if you are taking medication. Because they work on an energetic rather than physical level they are generally used to address emotional /behavioural issues.
What Do You Use Flower Essences For?
Well all sorts of things really, from increasing self-esteem to creating clear boundaries. You can use them to help you let go and to feel safe. Perhaps to help you realise you deserve to be heard to stop you worrying and remember that you are loved. In a nutshell they can help with everything in between too.
Every flower has lessons it can teach. If you choose the right ones for the issues that you are struggling with, you will notice the difference.
Usually people choose the essence that’s right for them by reading their descriptions. Some feel drawn to a particular flower, looking at its photo or noticing it around them. Sometimes you will find that you keep seeing a particular flower or tree in your everyday life. If this is the case it might be that you need the energy of that plant for your healing.
