Mr and Mrs 50 Plus have just returned from a luxury lodge holiday at The Sherwood Hideaway in Sherwood Forest. Here’s what they thought of the break …
We’ve been to The Sherwood Hideaway before and left completely relaxed with fully-recharged batteries. So when we decided we needed a couple of days away before moving, we knew exactly where to go. I’d had a month of off and on illness and we felt we deserved a treat. We were after a staycation type break as I really didn’t relish the idea of hanging around in an airport wasting half our short break travelling.
The Sherwood Hideaway
The Sherwood Hideaway is a few hours up the M5/M1 from Cardiff. Just time for one coffee stop really. It’s an upscale place surrounded by forest and greenery and is lovely and quiet.
The luxury lodges are immaculate and have all those little extra touches you get in 5 star hotels. In fact we had Prosecco and hand-made chocolates waiting for us along with our robes, slippers and some amazing Molton Brown toiletries.
Hot Tub Heaven
The Hot Tub was pristine and welcoming and we made good use of it every evening. There’s something special about being outside on a cold night in a hot bubbly tub looking up at the stars. It was reassuring to see the Sherwood Hideaway staff coming every morning to discreetly clean the hot tubs too.
I have to say that every member of staff we met was ‘spot-on’. They were friendly, welcoming and couldn’t do enough for you. For example, we arrived a bit early and our lodge wasn’t quite ready. We were more than happy to hang around for a while but weren’t expecting the glass of wine they gave us while we were waiting!
As a family we have stayed up the road from Sherwood Hideaway in more well-knows lodge park. That particular one is massive as are their parks in the rest of The UK I have to say that if the children were still young and I was choosing a self-catering lodge park for a holiday, I would never go there again. I’d choose The Sherwood Hideaway every time. There’s plenty for children to do there. They can play freely and safely outside, see wildlife galore and it’s all free. Their competitors use every opportunity they have, to get you to fork out extra money for bits and bobs. Take your own food with you to Sherwood and in theory you don’t have to spend a penny while you’re there! A definite bonus.
Luxury Lodges
We stayed in a Woodland View Superior Lodge and I’m sure we’ve never stayed in a more perfect lodge anywhere. It was contemporary, spacious, and lovely and warm and cosy. Plenty of room to park and loads of space around us too. The lodges are spaced with a lot of room between each one to ensure privacy and peace and quiet. The bed we had was unbelievably comfortable and we had lie-ins aplenty.
The Sherwood Hideaway is in a truly stunning setting, great for walking and exploring or simply chilling. It’s ideal for young and old alike and brilliant for multi-generational holidays! The accommodation is equipped to the highest standards and their prices are extremely competitive. It really is the perfect place to go for a quiet short break or even a full holiday or staycation. (There was a young couple on honeymoon checking in when we did!) We’ve always done the midweek breaks but I think we may well splash out on a week next time. Because believe me, there will be a next time. For a complete switch-off holiday you can’t beat The Sherwood Hideaway!
