An active love life, yoga and drinking red wine are among the top 40 things which keep you feeling young, according to new research.
The poll of 1,500 over-65s also revealed singing along to music, spending time with younger people and doing puzzles was important.
And when it comes to how you feel on the inside, the outside really does matter. Wearing whatever clothes you like, treating yourself to a nice haircut and keeping physically active also appear on the list of ways to help keep you feeling young and spritely.
Eight in 10 people approaching retirement believe in the phrase ‘you’re only as young as you feel. 78% of them claim to feel younger than the number on their last birthday card. Getting older is inevitable but ageing is optional!
The research was commissioned by Fairy Non-Bio and found, on average, respondents feel around nine years younger than they actually are. Three quarters put this down to keeping a positive mental attitude, while just under half thank a healthy lifestyle.
Older Brits think their physical appearance has a lot to say about the age they feel, with more than half admitting they’ve changed their style and clothing choices as they aged.
Does the Way You Dress Make You Look Older?
Almost a third now favour softer fabrics such as cotton to avoid irritating their skin, and 46 per cent opt for looser fitting clothes. A quarter of older people wear far fewer bold patterns and prints than they did in their youthful heyday.
Over 50% of Over 65s confess to finding their skin has increased in sensitivity as they’ve got older. And some of the top ways to try and combat this include changing their soap or washing powder or trying different styles of clothing.
