Beauty Editor Kim Jones shares some of her favourite new beauty buys …
JO LOVES ROSE PETAL 25 FRAGRANCE, £70, joloves.com
When I sprayed on this sweet fragrance, I was rewarded with sunny childhood memories of picking rose petals, with the aim of creating my own sweet-smelling perfume. And whilst the end result of my childish concoctions never quite delivered, when roses are in the hands of scent guru Jo Malone, it’s quite the different story. Her new Rose Petal 25 fragrance oozes sophistication, capturing precious moments and sweet memories of her 25-year career in perfumery. Jo has always loved the scent of rose petals – and here she’s blended beautiful Rose Absolute and Rose de Mai and added a hint of ambrette for a scent that blends the sweet and sharp of rose, leading to a subtle musky depth.
REVOLUTION CONCEAL & HYDRATE FOUNDATION, £9, revolutionbeauty.com
With a fabulous 50 shades to choose from, you’re sure to find your favourite amongst the new Conceal & Hydrate Foundation from Revolution. Offering medium to full coverage, this make-up also delivers a boost of plumping hydration thanks to its hyaluronic acid content. Especially good for mature skins, it doesn’t settle into fine lines or wrinkles. If you want to lighten the coverage, just apply with a damp beauty sponge, so that some of your natural complexion shines through. A professional finish with a pleasing price tag!
New Beauty Buys
TIME BOMB SHOW-OFF SHIMMER, £24, timebombco.com
Holiday season may be coming to an end, but holiday skin doesn’t have to. This softly scented body lotion infused with luxe hydrators and toners like White Truffle Oil, White Tea Leaf and Shea Butter, helps keep your tan in situ. But what’s really special is the understated, barely-there opalescent shimmer it leaves on your skin; like the lightest of glitters, it helps you sparkle – just a touch – in the September sun, but also blurs away skin imperfections. Easy, pleasing and subtle enough to wear during the daytime, it’s a little bit of light relief from the darkening days.
Fab Waterproof Mascara
DIEGO DALLA PALMA SUB-AQUEO VERY WATERPROOF MASCARA, £18, Marks & Spencer and diegodallapalma.com
No ordinary waterproof mascara; not only does it give your lashes the wow-factor – but it’s also really effectively waterproof. The brush features two different sized bristles – larger bristles to provide the volume and curl and smaller bristles to help define and separate lashes. It takes some takes some getting used to (I use the larger bristles first, and finish with the smaller), but once you get the hang of it, you’ve got big, well defined lashes that won’t run in the rain.
HASK BIOTIN BOOST SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER, £6.99 each, Boots
If you’ve fallen prey to thinning hair then this range may just help bring back some bounce. HASK Biotin Boost contains three ingredients designed to nourish and give fine locks more fullness: biotin, a B-vitamin vital to the health of your hair, collagen to strengthen your strands, and coffee, thought to promote hair growth.
Good To Go
LANO FACE BASE, THE AUSSIE FLYER, £20, cultbeauty.co.uk
Give parched skin a drink of must-have moisture with this leave-on mask. Especially fantastic for use whilst flying, it’s designed for you to spread on thickly then leave for 10 minutes while a big dose of lanolin (plus plenty of shea and cocoa butter) soak in. There may be some tingling as this cream works its magic (thanks to a hit of mint and coffee to help wake up tired skin cells that haven’t got much sleep). After the allotted time, if there’s any residue on your face, simply pat with a towel and you’re good to go – all glowy and fresh.
