An introduction to the city of Amsterdam. In our opinion, one of the best city breaks in Europe!
Choosing a weekend city break can be really hard when you’re confronted by so much choice nowadays. As air travel networks expand and budget airlines offer more and more attractive routes the choice becomes overwhelming.
Having visited lots of cities around the world, we thought it would be nice to focus on a city that we’ve visited several times and that never fails to please – Amsterdam.
Amsterdam – Compact and Easy To Get To
It’s one of the easiest cities to get to in Europe, with frequent flights from just about every regional airport in the UK. There’s a huge choice of accommodation from the exclusive 5-star hotels to the modest and affordable hotels and guest houses.
Amsterdam is a compact city, so getting around is very quick and easy, whether you use the extensive and inexpensive public transport options or stick with Shank’s Pony, you can get around the city with ease and see all the picturesque canal scenery without setting foot on a tram.
The Dutch people are friendly and welcoming and the whole city has such a relaxed air to it, whatever time of year you choose to visit. Some of the frozen winter scenery, with frozen canals and snow-topped buildings is picture-book beautiful. In the summer, the colours and shadows make every canal, bridge and boat glisten in the sunlight.
I adore Amsterdam. It’s a great city to visit and spend time in!
